As if I don't have enough on my plate right now, I decided to sign up last month to Mable Tan's 30 patterns in 30 days challenge. Hear me out, I wanted to draw things that I wouldn't normally choose to draw to see if I could develop a better idea of my favourite style of illustrating and get out of my comfort zone a bit and OMG did it help so much!!
Here are a few of the patterns that I worked on throughout the month.
As you can see I didn't get to make a pattern every single day, but I did manage to create 21 brand new patterns in the last month, and that is not bad going. It was great to work on things quickly and hone my illustrator skills to work at a faster pace rather than agonising over every little detail. I don't love every pattern I created either but that's okay too, this was a learning experience for me and I learnt a lot about what I like and what I don't in terms of what I draw and how I draw it.
Have you ever done a one thing a day challenge? I would love to do the 100 days challenge but I really would like to work a bit more on my style before I dive in to something for such a long stretch as I found 30 days was quite a enough of a challenge for the moment.
